COSATU President Sdumo Dlamini:

"Come back to the CEC"

Indiphile Madikida, The New Age, Johannesburg, 2 April 2015

COSATU president Sdumo Dlamini says the expulsion of COSATU general
secretary Zwelinzima Vavi is a democratic decision and members should accept
it.

"The decision to dismiss the former general secretary was a democratic
decision following the constitution. We calling on everybody to respect that
decision. Vavi has been dismissed, whether he appeals or not. It's his
business" Dlamini said.

Speaking to ANN7 on Thursday, Dlamini said that he is aware of the claims
that the unrest within COSATU that led to the axing of its controversial
secretary Vavi are a personal matter between him and Vavi and that it was
the Federation's decision.

"I do not vote in the CEC of COSATU, the Unions leadership votes. They voted
for the expulsion of Vavi. I do not vote. I did not vote.

"There is nothing personal between the two of us," Dlamini said.

Dlamini also slammed Vavi for making public the federation's financial
status saying if there is any truth to the bankruptcy claims, Vavi being the
secretary and member of the federation was also responsible for the
situation.

"A CEO of a company can't go public and brag about that situation. He knows
he is lying, he wanted to create that situation, he knows he did almost
everything to paralyse us from inside and we refused, he moved out. If he
was at the centre of the COSATU, he should then be saying he is also
responsible for that situation if it does exist," Dlamini added.

In conclusion, Dlamini called on Unions who suspended all their activities
in COSATU to accept the CEC decision and come back.

He told those who support Vavi that they took a wrong political decision in
supporting an individual at the expense of the federation. Dlamini said they
must come back to the federation and iron out their issues.

"I have pity and sympathise with them (Unions), they made a wrong political
decision to support an individual other than identifying with the
organisation, so when they feel the pain and express what they are
expressing now, I understand that and I will say, because they are unions of
COSATU, come back, express your views. COSATU Unions must come back to
COSATU, we are calling on Unions that are still suspending their
participation in the Central Executive Committee because they are
participating in all other activities of COSATU except in the CEC, we are
calling them to come back in our next meeting so that we engage on the
issues," Dlamini concluded.

Zwelinzima Vavi was dismissed as COSATU general secretary after a special
central executive committee (CEC) meeting pronounced that he was guilty of
gross misconduct.
