Public servants reject wage offer Steven Tau, The Citizen, Johannesburg, 13 April 2015 Public servants who have been consulted to give fresh mandates regarding the public service wage negotiations, have already rejected government's latest wage offer of 5.8%. This was confirmed by Mugwena Maluleke, spokesperson of trade union federation COSATU's public service unions. COSATU-affiliated trade unions met with members in different parts of the country last week. "The members we have spoken to so far have made it clear they are not prepared to accept anything less than a double digit increase," Maluleke told The Citizen. JMC4.jpg The COSATU-affiliated Public Service Unions Members had also demanded a housing allowance increase from R900 to R1 500. He said the final mandate from all provinces was expected by next week Monday. Just before the Easter holidays, the state declared a dispute, which necessitated the appointment of an independent mediator. According to Maluleke, conciliation efforts, which began at the end of last week, were expected to continue tomorrow and on Wednesday. The COSATU-led unions also warned strike action may be on the cards if the employer fails to present an acceptable offer.
