Eyewitness News 3.png Gauteng ANC Chair Opposes Use of More Govt Funds for Nkandla Paul Mashatile says he doesn't agree with the security cluster's decision to spend more govt money on Nkandla. Govan Whittles, Eye Witness News, Johannesburg, 11 June 2015 The chairperson of the African National Congress (ANC) in Gauteng, Paul Mashatile, says he does not agree with the security cluster's decision to spend more money on security upgrades at President Jacob Zuma's private home in Nkandla, adding that the decision to spend more government money on Nkandla was not an ANC position. Mashatile today took part in Daily Maverick's The Gathering conference on the Nkandla spending along with Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimane and former Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) leader Zwelinzima Vavi. Mashatile also responded to questions about the leadership of the ANC and his political ambitions. Mashatile said that while he voted yes to an ad hoc committee being set up to discuss Police Minister Nathi Nhleko's Nkandla report, he did not necessarily agree with more security upgrades at the president's private home. "For now I would like to say it's his view. I heard for the first time that the minister said this. I don't agree with it." He said the ANC's national executive committee (NEC) did not receive Nhleko's report which was presented to the public. "That report never came to the ANC. Because in our right minds we can't say, when the public is complaining, that we're going to spend more. That issue is still going to be discussed by the NEC itself, because it never came to us." Mashatile said talk of him contesting for a senior position in the ANC was just a rumour for now, and he would not mind if a woman was elected leader of the party.
