ANC Confirms Postponement of Youth League's Congress

National Coordinator Nathi Mthethwa says there has been several incidents
preventing the conference.

Dineo Bendile, Eye Witness News, Johannesburg, 20 June 2015

The African National Congress (ANC) has confirmed the postponement of its
youth league's National Elective Conference.

Members of the African National Congress Youth League, were expected to
convene from 25 to 28 June to elect a national leadership.

However, National Coordinator and Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa
says there has been several incidents preventing the conference from
happening according to schedule.

Recently the High Court in Pretoria made a ruling to nullify procedures at
an elective conference held in Limpopo last month.

Some provinces also claim they need more time to hold their branch general
meetings.

Mthethwa says the ruling by the court will be challenged.

"The postponement is real; there are things which we have come across on our
way. Firstly it's that we want everybody who is supposed to be at the
congress to be there."
