ANC Media Alert, Johannesburg, 30 June 2015 ANC DP to Address Cuban Five Symposium For almost two weeks the Cuban Five Heroes, Comrades Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labanino, Rene Gonzalez and Fernando Gonzalez, have graced South Africa with their presence as part of their tribute to African solidarity. The Cuban Five are Cuban nationals who were unjustly imprisoned in the United States for fighting against terrorism. During the course of the last nine days, the Cuban Five Heroes have been to the provinces of Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Western Cape, Limpopo and the Free State. During this visit our Cuban compatriots have engaged with the leadership and membership of our organisation, ordinary South Africans and Cuban nationals in our country; communicating their appreciation for the solidarity demonstrated by the world during their incarceration and calling for further global action to ensure that the US blockade against Cuba is lifted. Their final public engagement before their departure from South Africa on the 3rd July 2015 will be an International Symposium to be held on Thursday, 2 July 2015.
