Eyewitness News 3.png Five Unions Pull Out of Administering ANA Exams SADTU, NAPTOSA, NATU, PEU and SAOU have made their intentions clear Barry Bateman, Eye Witness News, Pretoria, 21 September 2015 A group of five teacher unions have told the department of basic education (DBE) that their members will not administer the Annual National Assessment (ANA) exams later this year. SADTU, NAPTOSA, NATU, PEU and the SAOU called a brief conference in Pretoria this morning where they discussed their concerns and made their intentions clear. Basic education minister Angie Motshekga announced on Friday that ANA tests would be conducted in the first week of December. SADTU's Mugwena Maluleke says that announcement came as a complete surprise because there was no agreement on when the test should be taken. "Under no circumstances would we have agreed to rollout the ANA in its current form. Even if it would have been at a later date as unilaterally decided by the DBE." Maluleke has asked the department to allow the task team that has been setup to first do its work and devise a new assessment tool. "We are fully committed to the task team and believe that the outcome of its work will be a truly systematic and diagnostic tool that will add value to the system."
