New Age2.png Losi ready for highest office Itumeleng Mafi, The New Age, Johannesburg, 19 November 2015 COSATU second deputy president Zingiswa Losi hit back at her detractors, saying she deserved to be in the federation's top brass. Numsa and several of COSATU's 18 affiliates want Losi to be dismissed as COSATU's second deputy president. Losi was appointed second deputy president while she was a NUMSA shop steward. But after the union made plans to oust her as she was not toeing the line, concerning the change in NUMSA's political direction, she joined the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union despite never being a member of the police or a prison official. Losi is among several names that are being thrown around to become the successor of former COSATU secretary general Zwelinzima Vavi. Her move allowed her to become a shop steward for POPCRU so she could keep her position in COSATU. "I am a leader in good standing. The special national congress confirmed it and the workers confirmed it," Losi said. She could not confirm or deny if she had been nominated for a new position in the upcoming COSATU national congress. However, she said it was up to the workers to decide if the federation was ready for a female president. All systems go On November 23, 2 500 delegates from all COSATU affiliates and more than 250 international and local guests will descend on Gallagher Estate in Midrand to elect the new leadership and debate various policy positions. "This 12th session of the workers' parliament will receive messages of support from our alliance partners, with ANC President Jacob Zuma, the general secretary of the SACP, Blade Nzimande and the president of SANCO Richard Mdakane addressing workers on different days of the congress," the federation's acting general secretary Bheki Ntshalintshali said. He said the federations will also receive solidarity messages, from global fraternal organisations. "We can say with certainty that it's all systems go for what we expect to be a very successful 12th national congress of COSATU." <mailto:[email protected]> [email protected] From: <http://tnaepaper.co.za/DRIVE/main%20edition/19112015/epaperpdf/4.pdf> http://tnaepaper.co.za/DRIVE/main%20edition/19112015/epaperpdf/4.pdf -- -- You are subscribed.
