New Age2.png Tension emerges in alliance Cooperation between ANC and SACP hits rocky times as friction develops in two major SACP provinces Peter Ramothwala, The New Age, Johannesburg, 19 November 2015 The alliance between the SACP and ANC faces a rocky future as two major SACP provinces have announced displeasure over the state of the alliance. The SACP in Mpumalanga yesterday expressed displeasure at "the suspensions" of its members in the ANC. The SACP in Mpumalanga held its 6th Plenary Session of the 8th Congress Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) at the weekend at the Ehlanzeni FET in Mbombela, Phillip Radebe district. Provincial secretary Bonakele Majuba said the PEC reflected on the state of the alliance in Mpumalanga province and the persisting anti-communist and anti-class conscious tendencies within the liberation movement since the beginning of the year. "The PEC noted in addition to the violent attack on the SACP at the Joe Slovo and Jimmy Mohlala memorial lecture by individuals from the ANC at Kanyamazane earlier this year, anticommunist tendencies continue. "This includes the suspension of communists in the ANC, the rejection of SACP deployees by the ANC to serve in election structures and the disruption of SACP and counter-organising of SACP activities," he said. Majuba said the SACP and COSATU reaffirmed their commitment to develop and implement joint programmes. Youth League Meanwhile the ANC Youth League in Kwazulu-Natal yesterday reminded the SACP that its role is to bring socialism in the country but not try to be a youth league of the ANC. ANCYL KZN, November 2015.jpg "The attack on the president is a clear attack on the ANC and therefore we would wish to warn the SACP that the YL of the ANC will stand ready to defend the president and the ANC with all of our might. "To claim that it's them alone that defended the ANC president during his difficult days is devoid from the truth and reality," provincial secretary Thanduxolo Sabelo said. Meanwhile the SACP provincial secretary in Moses Mabhida, Themba Mthembu said that the council expressed its concerns at the growing signs of a deteriorating alliance relationship. There are clear indications of leaders within the alliance who appear not to value the alliance as it stands. "The alliance played a central role in bringing stability and peace in KwaZulu- Natal and this is how we must put value to it. "There has also been a growing trend to abuse the name of our state president in factional battles." In June, the alliance partners met during the alliance summit where it was resolved that the alliance remains a critical force to ensure that the goals of the Freedom Charter and NDR are achieved.
