Kiev Bans Russian Airline Flights amid Gas Dispute

The Morning Star, London, 26 November 2015

The Russia-Ukraine energy dispute deepened yesterday, when Kiev banned
Russian gas imports and airline flights.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said the government had
prohibited national company Natfogaz from buying Russian gas and that
Ukrainian airspace was closed to all flights.

Russian gas company Gazprom had already cut off supplies at 10am after Kiev
failed to pay its bill. On Tuesday, Russia also stopped coal shipments,
leaving Ukrainians facing a very cold winter.

Tensions rose after fascist Right Sector militias and Turkish-backed Crimean
Tatar separatists blew up electricity pylons supplying the Crimea, leaving
the region with less than 40 per cent of its power needs.

Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak accused Ukrainian authorities on
Tuesday of delaying repairs.
