Released after Western pleas

The Morning Star, London, 30 January 2016

Burundian police said yesterday they had arrested one British and one French
journalist during a raid on armed insurgents [and later released the
journalists].

French reporter Jean-Philippe Remy and British photographer Philip Edward
Moore were in the capital Bujumburaa on an assignment for French newspaper
Le Monde.

Police deputy spokesman Moise Nkurunziza said they were among 17 arrested in
the Nyakabiga district overnight.

Agence France-Presse wrote to President Pierre Nkurunziza demanding the
release of the journalists.

[Western NGOs pushing for regime change in Burundi] accuse the government of
killing dozens of opposition supporters following an armed insurgent attack
on three military barracks in the capital on December 11.
