Morning Star.png Students Vow Statue Will Fall The Morning Star, London, 2 February 2016 Oxford University students vowed yesterday to “redouble their efforts” to tear down a statue of British imperialist Cecil Rhodes. Oriel College announced last week that it would keep the statue in situ before a promised consultation even took place. Rhodes Must Fall In Oxford organiser Sarah Atayero said: “We are not backing down and we will be redoubling our efforts to take the struggle to the university as a whole.” She said the statue’s removal was vital so the university could come to terms with present-day issues around race. The college denied reports that donors had threatened to withdraw gifts worth over £100 million if the statue was removed.
