YCLSA Press Statement, 2 February 2016

Response to the ANCYL's

personal attack on

Cde Themba Mthembu

The Young Communist League of South Africa is growing impatient with
Thanduxolo Sabela's persistent obsession with the SACP Provincial Secretary
Cde Themba Mthembu. It is becoming clearer now that whenever Sabela is at
respite of ideas to make himself and his personal accumulation path relevant
in the body politic of the province, he turns to his farce of an insidiously
personalised crush on Cde Themba Mthembu.

We wish to remind Thanduxolo Sabela that no person in the movement,
especially at this current epoch in the province, has a responsibility to
defend inkabi (hitman), criminals, thugs and commercial racketeers. This we
believe is the warning made by Cde Themba Mthembu on behalf of the
collective of SACP in the province. To quote the SACP statement "We are not
going to allow criminals to hijack our alliance and we call upon all
alliance partners to stop criminals hijacking our structures, let our
structures belong to the people not to criminals, thugs and commercial
racketeers." If Thanduxolo Sabela has any contestation to this statement,
it can only mean that he himself is part of the agenda of stealing the
structures of the movement from the people, hence this scathing attack on
the SACP which they deem as a bottleneck to their malicious intention.

We are even more disturbed by the silence of the ANC Provincial Executive
Committee at this blatant attacks on their alliance by the Thanduxolo's
ANCYL leadership clique. As it seems to be a tacit support of the malicious
intent carried by the latest of Thanduxolo Sabela's statements. We were even
more taken aback by the remarks made by the ANC's Mdumiseni Ntuli who in the
New Age was quoted saying "there's a sense of logic to what the youth league
is saying." A clear indication that Thanduxolo Sabela's attack on the SACP
is fully supported by senior leaders in the ANC leadership.

However it must be noted that this silence by the ANC is nothing new to us
as the YCLSA, we have become accustomed to their desensitized attitudes
these attacks on the movement and the Alliance. If the ANC and its young
want to be heard now chastising Cde Themba Mthembu on the attempts of the
SACP in speaking out against what they deem as serious threats to the
movement, then we can only wonder why they have been so silent on the
devastating turn of events in the province recently, to count but a few:

1. The gunning down of the SACP Branch Secretary Cde Dumisani Zwane at
Ward 43 eNtuzuma. Allegedly involving members and acquaintances of the ANC.

2. Killing of our people at the stronghold of the ANC, which is Glebelands
Hostels.

3. Killing of our people at KwaNdengezi, again another stronghold of the
ANC. Allegedly involving even a PR councillor of the ANC.

4. The recent foiled assassination attempted (which we believe was
supposed to be the assassination of Cde James Nxumalo) at an SACP Community
Meeting, at yet another ANC stronghold, resulting in the tragic death of 3
people, allegedly at the hands of an ANC Ward Councillor. Yes a Ward
Councillor is alleged to have participated in the shooting of the very same
community he is deployed to service, and the ANC YL wants to chastise Cde
Themba Mthembu.

5. The recent assassination of Cde Joe Dlamini at the offices of an ANC
lead municipality in Pietermaritzburg.

6. The alleged hit list doing the rounds at Moses Mabhida Region of the
ANC, which contains only names of ANC and SACP members.

7. The recent violence at Kokstad, where comrades were found ravaging each
other with chairs at a constitutional meeting.

These are but only a small portion of recent events that we believe are
supposed to be of concern to the entire movement instead of this personal
attack on Cde Themba Mthembu. To be noted also is that these are all events
involving members of the ANC, taking place at strongholds of the ANC. Which
prompts the question; "if the ANC is not concerned about its members, then
who is it servicing and concerned about? Why the ANC and its youth wing are
silent on these criminal, thugs and izinkabi running an invective in the
province? Could it be because these criminals, thugs and izinkabi are
defending the factional interests of the Provincial Leadership clique of the
ANC? WHY IS THE ANCYL NOT WORRIED ABOUT THE KIND OF ANC THEY ARE LIKELY TO
INHERIT?

Let us also remind Thanduxolo Sabela and Mdumiseni Ntuli as well their
clique, that there is not a deployment process in the movement that is
solely of the ANC. Cde Themba Mthembu is deployed to the service of the
movement through the ANC. It is therefore an extremely sad version of
opportunism to demand that he steps down, for defending the same movement.
Besides the Thanduxolo Sabela clique's insatiable, factional appetite for
deployments, we invite them to disappoint us as the YCLSA for once and show
concern for the people's movement.

Conclusion

As the YCLSA we are very much aware of an elaborate plan to tarnish and
politically dislodge the leadership of the SACP, particularly the General
Secretary Cde Blade Nzimande, the 2nd Deputy General Secretary Cde Solly
Mapaila and our Provincial Secretary Cde Themba Mthembu. We are aware that
this plan is led by the very same person who is responsible for the disunity
and political instability in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. The very same
person who can be said to be responsible for fermenting political decay
within our movement. A person who is presently leading the project of
handing over the ANC to the capital (highest bidder).

We call on all ANC YL members, who are concerned about the aspirations of
young people in the Province to avert a repeat of a serious farce. To fight
against this iNkatha-rization of the ANC YL. To ensure that the ANC YL
reverts back to being an organization of young people and not an
organization that represents the accumulative, factional deployment
appetites of the leadership clique.
