Morning Star.png Syrian Army Breaks the Siege of Zahraa The Morning Star, London, 4 January 2016 Syrian troops backed by local militia and Russian air raids broke the siege of the village of Zahraa yesterday, cutting the supply line from Turkey to insurgent-held east Aleppo. The al-Qaida-affiliated Nusra Front was forced to send reinforcements as soldiers fought their way into the village of Rityan just north of Aleppo city. And special forces reportedly captured the village of al-Sin, north of the Aleppo thermal power plant. In Geneva, the Saudi-backed High Negotiations Committee repeated its precondition for a ceasefire by Syrian and Russian forces before talks can commence. But Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said bombing would continue, adding that any ceasefire would be difficult to enforce without sealing the porous border with Turkey.
