Syrian People's Assembly Elections

 

967 candidates apply to stand

 

 

SANA, Damascus, 27 February 2016

 

At the conclusion of the 4th day of receiving applications for candidates
wishing to stand for the upcoming People's Assembly elections on Saturday
evening, the Higher Committee for Elections announced that the number of
candidates has reached 967.

 

The Committee stated that as of as of 8 PM on Saturday, the number of
candidates has reached 125 in Damascus, 76 in Damascus Countryside, 105 in
Aleppo city, 73 in Aleppo areas, 44 in Idleb, 155 in Homs, 66 in Hama, 98 in
Lattakia, 43 in Tartous, 44 in Deir Ezzor, 54 in Hasaka, 32 in Raqqa, 34 in
Daraa, 7 in Sweida, and 12 in Quneitra.

 

Head of the Committee, Judge Hisham al-Shaar, said that the number of
applicants is very good, and that the higher the number the better, as this
offers voters more options to select their representatives at the Assembly.

 

Applications for candidacy in the elections would continue to be received on
each day including until March 1st, and the elections are scheduled to be
held on April 13th.
