SACPblackStar.jpg South African Communist Party Skenjana Roji District, Eastern Cape, 1 March 2016 Press Statement SACP Skenjana Roji calls for full implementation of the ANC Buffalo City integrity report The South African Communist Party (SACP) in Skenjana Roji (Buffalo City Region) notes and welcomes the actions taken on the comrades involved in the Nelson Mandela Memorial Fraud following recommendations by the Integrity Commission. The SACP is on record having called for all those involved to step aside as back as March 2014. In our anti-corruption march held in 2015, the Nelson Mandela memorial fraud scandal is one of the things we raised and called for decisive action and leadership. It is in this context that we appreciate the decisions by our long standing ally, the African National Congress (ANC) to remove the people involved in the scandal, as they have brought the name of the ANC into disrepute. It is our long held view as the SACP that they have in pursuit of their selfish interests acted in manner that eroded the public confidence on the ANC and its government. They have acted in a manner that has dragged the name of President Nelson Mandela into the mud. It is in this context that we are calling for full implementation of the integrity report without any fear or favour of certain individuals perceived to be powerful. We find it strange that comrade Luleka Simon-Ndzele would be removed as the council speaker but remain in her position in the ANC. Given the "real power" that Phumlani Mkolo has in the ANC structures, to suspend him and leave the ANC Regional Executive Committee (REC) intact is just an academic exercise, for he will remain there, and nothing will ever change for the better. To us the latter defeats logic that the comrades have brought the name of the ANC into disrepute and therefore cannot hold office until completion of the trial. So it is not the full implementation of the integrity report. As the SACP, we are calling for full implementation of the integrity report to restore public confidence in our movement. This should be done to implement the ANC resolutions on strengthening the fight against corruption and consequences for any wrong doing. The SACP is deeply concerned that the Integrity Commission finished the report as far back as April 2015 and it is only released now with untold damage done to the standing of our movement over this period.
