POPCRU2.png 3 March 2016 POPCRU to Oppose Bail for Constable Lekalakala's Killers The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU) is infuriated by the continued police killings that have taken place since the beginning of this year, with the latest victim being constable Max Lekalakala of the Gauteng Flying Squad who was killed on the N4 outside Pretoria. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Lekalakala family and his colleagues within the South African Police Service (SAPS), and wish a speedy recovery to the three who were shot in Umlazi yesterday. POPCRU members have successfully applied for Section 205, and will be picketing outside the Bronkhorstspruit Magistrate's court tomorrow in opposition to the suspects' 1st bail application bid. We want to categorically state that the killing of police officers cannot be normalised, and we will not sit back while our protectors are being targeted by these reprobate elements. Police should act decisively when confronted. With over 10 police officers having being killed this year alone, we are heading in the wrong path if action is not taken immediately. We appeal to members of communities to assist police across the country in bringing such characters to book.
