“YCLSA Linda Jabane saddened by the untimely death of Wits students”

It is with great grief and sadness that YCLSA in Linda Jabane District
received the news of the untimely death of 7 students from Wits
University in a horrific accident. Once again, our roads have stolen
promising lives of young people in our country due to negligence.

The YCLSA in Linda Jabane calls for the transformation of public
transport in our country and, the intensification of road safety
awareness throughout the year. Top that effect, we advocate for safe,
efficient and reliable public transport that should include
professionalising the minibus and taxi industry with adequate support
from government. Furthermore, goods vehicles must have enough
reflectors to be visible at night; this should also includes clear
road markings especially in areas populated by goods vehicles.

Our roads should not be sites of death but rather the paths indicating
the unity and linking of South African cultures and peoples.

We send our deepest condolences to the families, the friends and
colleagues of these students.

May their souls rest in peace.
