Prensa Latina.png Venezuela and South Africa Meet in a Spirit of South-South Cooperation Prensa Latina (Cuba), in Johannesburg, 9 May 2016 The Executive Vice-President of Venezuela, Aristóbulo Istúriz, said today that his country and South Africa would resume and strengthen their relations under the principles of South-South cooperation. At the end of a meeting with his South African counterpart, Cyril Ramaphosa, Istúriz said that the agenda had been driven by the 'eternal president Hugo Chávez' and praised the terms of the talks, as well as the topics discussed with his counterpart. Venezuela expects to use the experiences of the Commission in a newly created panel that will study the violent activities of February 2014 that were part of the protests termed 'The Exit', which were encouraged by the opposition. Istúriz conveyed the greetings of his government, the population and the Venezuelan President, Nicolás Maduro to the people of Nelson Mandela. Ramaphosa described the talks as wonderful, he reiterated that they shared views on several topics and welcomed the level of relations between the two countries, which were established in 1994. Istúriz's visit, which concludes tomorrow, is being undertaken as part of Caracas' plan to approach the nations of the BRICS group (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa). The Venezuelan Vice-President arrived in South Africa yesterday from Dakar, Senegal, where he had made a stopover.
