YCLSA.png YCLSA Moses Mabhida Press Statement, Wednesday 11 May 2016 YCLSA Statement on the Brutal Assassination of our District Chairperson Cde Wandile "Manqasha" Ngubeni The Young Communist League of South Africa [uFasimba] in the Moses Mabhida Province is devastated by the recent brutal assassination of Cde Wandile "Manqasha" Ngubeni. Cde Manqasha, as he was affectionately known, to YCLSA, was dastardly murdered in cold blood by yet unknown assailants on the evening of the 8th of May 2016. Elected at the 2nd District Congress of EMalahleni as the District Chairperson, Cde Manqasha had become a very valuable asset to our cause of mobilizing young people for socialism and building the Young Communist League as home of their hopes and aspirations. We mourn the lost opportunity of engaging with him at a meeting we were meant to have with the District leadership, over the weekend, we were in anticipation of the robust, youthful and fearless nature in which Cde Manqasha would put through his ideas towards organizational building and youth mobilization. As the YCLSA the shooting down of Cde Manqasha is another stark reminder that we are organizing in a very politically noxious environment. In an environment where it has become common cause that almost every month we will be arranging, memorial services, burials & lowering coffins as a consequence of comrade-on-comrade violence. Not so long ago we were burying Cde Zodwa Sibiya , Cde Dumisani Zwane, Cde Joe Dlamini and many others in hostels dwellings around the province particularly in Durban, all of them gunned down in more or less the same fashion. It is therefore unfortunate that the murder of Cde Manqasha reinforces within the YCLSA the belief that the ANC-led alliance and Government leadership in the province, has run out of ideas of creating an environment of political tolerance. In line with this belief the YCLSA will honour the life of Cde Manqasha by assiduously canvassing within the Movement and Provincial Government its position that the ANC lead alliance convenes an Extraordinary Provincial Summit pointedly towards curbing the spate of political violence in the province. We fear that if the assassination of Cde Manqasha is any indication that we are entering a period where young lives are going to be targeted, then a massacre is about to ensue. Particularly when our political landscape is enmeshed with criminals, political izinkabi (Hitman), thugs and commercial racketeers hell-bent on capturing the people's liberation movement for its own ends. We will remember Cde Manqasha as passionate about elevating young people out of the crisis levels of unemployment, poverty and social and inequality levels that as he pointed out in one of our meetings, "pinned young people against each other, in a scramble to put food on their tables and in their stomachs" As such he was adamant that he would work with all formations that sought to ensure and place young people as the main motive force in all the thinking and developmental interventions by our government from a local level to the provincial level. We believe that, he was on that exact mission before he was atrociously taken from us while on a mission of making a valuable contribution to the regional leadership of the ANCYL and their call for "Economic freedom in our lifetime." We wish to send our deepest condolences to our alliance family especially the ANCYL whom we believe are the closest to feeling the pain of our shared loss, as they too have lost a Regional Deputy Chairperson. In the same vein the YCLSA wishes Comrade Mafika Damane Mndebele, our former Deputy Provincial Secretary, our former National Committee member and spokesperson, currently serving as ANCYL Regional Secretary a speedy recovery. Unfortunately we wish him a speedy recovery on his physical wounds, knowing very well that the pain of having lost a friend, a confidant and fellow soldier will leave with him for a long time. The YCLSA will along with its national leadership be visiting the Ngubeni family to pass our sincere condolences and thank them for sharing the life of their son with our movement.
