YCLSA.png YCLSA Press Statement, 12 May 2016 YCLSA condemns the burning of VUT The Young Communist League of South Africa (uFasimba) condemns the acts of vandalism of took place last night at the Vaal University of Technology. Recently we have noticed an upsurge in the acts of vandalism of infrastructure in institutions of higher learning. Such acts must be condemned by society at large because they disrupt learning and it costs money to repair these damages. Violence and hooliganism must never emerge above negotiations and finding common ground. The YCLSA suspects the involvement of the EFF Student command who are well-known hooligans and known for anarchic behavior. As the YCLSA we condemn the use of vandalism to raise pertinent issues equally condemn those who high jack genuine students demands for their own narrow political agendas. We also call on the university to take students demands very seriously, this is not the first time the issue of safety has been raised at VUT. We call on the students and the management of the VUT to find each other with the purpose of finding solutions to the current problems that engulfs the university. Earlier in the week the university issued the exam time table and students must be getting ready to write their examinations. This time should be used for studying and preparing for exams and not torching university buildings. We call on law enforcement agencies to investigate this matter and bring to book those who are responsible. The YCLSA will be visiting the university to assess the situation.
