Tables are turned on Mashatile's leadership

Pro-Zuma supporters scupper Gauteng ANC call for resignation

Supporters of President Jacob Zuma in Gauteng have managed to force their
provincial leadership under Paul Mashatile to abandon the call for President
Zuma to resign.

Yesterday the tables were turned on Mashatile and his leadership. At a media
briefing after the weekend provincial general council (PGC) meeting, the ANC
came out and said the PGC had now referred the Zuma matter to the national
executive committee of the ANC for the final decision on his future.

A rather defeated Mashatile told journalists that the province was not
backtracking on its stance but the PGC had in fact endorsed the spirit of
their earlier decision. He said the PGC did not say Zuma must resign and
that it was unanimous that the matter must be referred to the ANC's national
executive committee.
