Morning Star.png Dilma Couped To Stop 'Car Wash' Disruption of investigation under cover of outcries for investigation The Morning Star, London, 31 May 2016 Suspended Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff said on Sunday that the legislative coup by her erstwhile allies was merely a plot to thwart corruption allegations against them. In an interview with Folha de Sao Paulo she seized upon leaked tapes of interim government figures plotting to stymie the Operation Car Wash probes into the scandal at state oil firm Petrobras published in the same newspaper last week. "The dialogues show that the real cause for my impeachment was an attempt to obstruct the Car Wash operation," she said. Ms Rousseff was suspended for six months by Brazil's congress earlier this month over claims that her Workers' Party government had secretly borrowed to increase public spending in the year before the 2014 elections. The campaign against her was led by interim president Michel Temer's party colleague and congress speaker Eduardo Cunha, one of the many politicians accused in the scandal. Ms Rousseff said: "Cunha not only commands, he is the Temer government."
