New Age2.png Oakbay rejects 'lies, smears' peddled by Sunday Times TNA Reporter, The New Age, Johannesburg, 13 June 2016 Oakbay Investments yesterday trashed claims in the Sunday Times that the company and its shareholders engaged in illegal activities related to its finances. The company said the report in the newspaper "continues the traditional tactics of Oakbay's detractors which involve leaks, smears, faceless sources, zero evidence and repeating lies until they were accepted as truth". "These tactics are used in collusion with media houses the business establishment has captured," the company said. Oakbay Investments CEO Nazeem Howa denied the company acted criminally as the report alleged. "We are happy to work directly with the Reserve Bank to resolve any questions around ourselves. We are clear that we have done nothing wrong," Howa said. "To date, we have had no contact from the Reserve Bank or any other institution about these allegations and we would expect any self-respecting journalist to ensure on the record confirmation rather than rely on faceless sources," he said. "It is of great concern to us that nameless government sources collaborate with the Sunday Times in the ongoing campaign to isolate and threaten any party that comes close to working with us. This is another step in the ongoing campaign to further prevent us from working with any bank, so we cannot pay our thousands of workers, who are ordinary South African citizens," he said. "It is clear that the problem of jobs in this country does not matter to some elements of the business establishment," Howa said. A list of questions regarding the allegations were sent to the national Treasury. Treasury spokesperson Phumza Macanda said: "The Reserve Bank and the FIC would be best placed to deal with your questions."
