No proof of unclean cash

Lesotho Prime Minister Pakalitha Mosisili said that South African banks that
shut down accounts belonging to all Gupta familycontrolled businesses could
have handled the matter better and differently.

In an exclusive interview with The New Age and ANN7 in Maseru this week,
Mosisili said the banks should not have involved themselves in politics but
service to the people.

"We have watched with a lot of interest the happenings in South Africa and
without wanting to appear to be interfering I think they (Oakbay and the
Guptas) were not handled well, particularly by the banks," Mosisili said.

People of such "potential and might to invest" must be treated better.

"I am not aware that there has been any evidence that has been brought
forward that their money is not clean," he said.

Earlier this year, Absa, First National Bank, Standard Bank and Nedbank as
well as the auditing firm KPMG closed their accounts with Oakbay
Investments, a company controlled by the Gupta family.

This came after a storm of accusations that the family was involved in
"interviewing" people for positions in President Jacob Zuma's Cabinet.

Mosisili said the Gupta family was welcome to invest in Lesotho and that the
revoking of Atul Gupta's diplomatic passport as special advisor to then
prime minister Tom Thabane last year was nothing personal.
