SACP with Red.png SACP Northern Cape Province PEC, Statement, 21 June 2015 In defence of our democratic gains and the consolidation of the National Democratic Revolution through the 2016 Local Government Elections The South African Communist Party (SACP) met in its regular Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) meeting in Kimberley over the weekend of 17 to 19 June 2016. The PEC received and discussed at length the political report as presented by the secretariat. The PEC received presentations by the Provincial Treasurer of the SACP Cde Darius Babuseng on the state of the provincial economy and alternatives and by the branch manager of the National Youth Development Agency Cde Lebogang Moremedi on the state of youth in the province. The PEC reaffirmed the Party's commitment to ensuring an overwhelming ANC-led alliance electoral victory during the 3 August 2016 local government elections. The PEC commended the mass mobilising role played by the SACP and the other alliance components as well as branches in filling up Galeshewe Stadium during the recently successful ANC provincial manifesto launch. This reflected the hope that the masses of our people continue to have in the ANC-led alliance as their only vehicle towards social and economic emancipation. The PEC expressed its firm believe that working with our allies, we need to use this local government elections period to unify our communities against opportunists who masquerade as messiahs. Independent yet complimentary As the SACP we have taken a decision to further use our independent yet complimentary elections program to implement our key campaigns, in line with our fifth provincial congress resolutions. These include the campaign against the illegal evictions taking place within our communities targeting the elderly and child-headed households led by corrupt property developers and their proxies in various municipalities. We will also campaign against the continued high electricity tariffs within our municipalities, particularly the Sol Plaatje Municipality. The problem, in the main, affects the unemployed, the elderly - who are heavily reliant on social grants - and vulnerable workers. Our Party workplace structures will intensify the mobilisation against corruption within our local municipalities working with South African Municipal Workers Union. While we support the overwhelming victory of the ANC as the leading component of our alliance across all wards and municipalities, we equally call for the total end to corruption in all its manifestations in our municipalities. Our efforts will deal a blow to the persisting crisis-levels of unemployment, poverty and inequality. The SACP and all its structures will continue to build the alliance and ensure that we emerge much stronger and united beyond the 2016 local government elections.
