Morning Star.png Putin Backs Democratic Government of Turkey Russian, Turkish Presidents to meet in August The Morning Star, London, 18 July 2016 Turkey's government received support from Russia yesterday - and attacks from France. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke by phone with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, who said Moscow backed "Turkey's elected government." An anonymous presidential source told the state Anadolu news agency that the two presidents would meet in early August. France sympathises with coup plotters Meanwhile, French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault warned Mr Erdogan not to take the coup as a "blank cheque" to silence his political opponents. "We want the rule of law to work properly in Turkey," Mr Ayrault told France 3 television, warning Turkish authorities against "purges." Mr Ayrault also questioned Turkey's commitment to the war against Islamic State (Isis). Last Wednesday, French President Francois Hollande announced that the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle would be sent to bomb Isis in Iraq, a day before the horrific terrorist attack in Nice. Greece will extradite golpistas Greece said yesterday it would extradite eight Turkish military officers who fled to the eastern Greek city of Alexandroupoli by helicopter following the coup, pledging to send them back within weeks.
