New Age2.png ANC's poll chief dismisses surveys Mokonyane confident that swing vote will ensure victory Dennis Cruywagen, The New Age, Johannesburg, 20 July 2016 ANC election head Nomvula Mokonyane has dismissed polls that suggest the party is under pressure and may even lose some metros on August 3. Recent surveys, including the ANN7/C-Voter survey done among voters in Johannesburg, showed the ANC is in danger of losing control of the business heart of South Africa. The latest ANN7/C-Voter survey predicts that 42.6% of eligible voters in the metro will cast their ballots for the DA compared to 39.7% for the ANC and 10.3% for the EFF. Nomvula Mokonyane.jpg Based on the latest poll predictions, the EFF could become the kingmaker following the August 3 polls. If neither the ANC or DA obtain a clear majority to govern the metro, the possibility of coalition politics may come into play. Despite trailing the DA in the Johannesburg voting stakes, the ANC still has the confidence of the electorate when it comes to service delivery in the metro, with the party gaining 43.3% of support compared to the DA's 39% and EFF's 9.7%. According to the poll, 21.9% of the electorate said that they would never vote for the ANC compared to the DA's 18.5% and EFF's 28.9%. According to another poll conducted by Ipsos, ANC support has radically declined since 2014. At least 42% of respondents indicated that they had voted for the ANC in 2014, albeit in the national elections. In last month's survey, only 31% of respondents said they would give their ballot to the ANC in next month's municipal elections. Electioneering in Bellville on a wet winter's day, Mokonyane dismissed the polls, saying that they were not factual. In a province where the DA governs she yesterday said: "We're going to win in Dullah Omar, which is the city of Cape Town. Our strength has been in our door to door campaigning." She said the ANC would also win the swing vote in the country's metros. While cagey about the total money that will be spent on advertising, Mokonyane admitted that this has been a most financially demanding election campaign. Thousands of posters, each with a picture of a specific Mayoral candidate in a particular area, have been printed and placed in strategic places. In addition, posters of party president Jacob Zuma exhorting voters to vote for the ANC have also been gone up. With the municipal elections looming, Mokonyane said the last batch of ANC posters to go up would boldly state what the party stands for and why it should be supported. Canvassing at Bellville station, she said, was part of interfacing with voters and making the ANC more visible. "Once of the key things for us is to demonstrate our presence and to remind voters what to do. The support we've seen here when people were demanding our T-shirts was good. Our T-shirts were going like pancakes."
