Morning Star.png Significant Electoral Test for ANC The Morning Star, London, 2 August 2016 Elderly and disabled voters unable to attend their polling station on municipal polling day tomorrow cast their votes yesterday or today, as the ruling ANC faces a significant electoral challenge. The African National Congress has dominated South African politics since the onset of democracy in 1994 but has seen some erosion of support from voters unhappy over unemployment or corruption. The opposition Democratic Alliance (DA), with its roots in the politics of apartheid days, hopes to make gains in key metropolitan areas. The DA has tried to pass itself off in the campaign as the guardian of the values and principles of late president Nelson Mandela. Communist Party (SACP) leader Blade Nzimande reminded voters at the weekend "that it was Madiba himself in 2000 at a COSATU rally who described the DA as 'a party of white bosses and black stooges'."
