NUM5.jpg NUM Media Statement, 4 November 2016 NUM welcomes the court ruling on the killing of its members in Rustenburg The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) is welcomes the sentencing of a heartless monster and cold-blooded killer who killed NUM shop stewards Nobongile Norah Madolo and Percy Letanang in 2013 after he was sentenced to a life imprisonment for each murder today at Mankwe Magistrate Court in Mogwase, North West Province. This was the case against an alleged AMCU member who was involved in the killing of the two NUM shop stewards in Marikana in 2013. As the NUM, we hope this heartless monster will rot in jail for the rest of his life. The sentence handed down today has vindicated the NUM as it has always said that its members are harassed, intimidated and killed for merely associating themselves with the union. This sentence will send a very strong and vivid message to all those who find it difficult to tolerate the democratic right of workers who choose to belong to the union of their choice. The magistrate said that the deceased were killed for being members of the NUM. She further said that the deceased were killed for their democratic right to belong to NUM. "The killings were pre planned and well executed. The deceased lost their lives in their quest to work for their families. The deceased families were left devastated," magistrate said.
