ANC no letters.jpg 16 February 2017 DA's Absurd Attack on Former ANC Caucus Spokesperson The Office of the ANC Chief Whip in Parliament is completely startled by the outrageous insinuations by the Democratic Alliance that members of the ANC cannot apply for certain jobs. In a statement released today, the DA casts aspersions on the process of the appointment of former ANC Caucus Spokesperson, Cde Moloto Mothapo as the Head of Communications and Spokesperson of Parliament. Cde Mothapo underwent all necessary channels of applying for the job, was shortlisted and went through an interview process. Like any other citizen, Cde Mothapo has the right to apply for any position of employment he deems fit. The DA's opposition to his appointment seeks to suggest that ANC members are not allowed to apply for certain jobs in this country. The mere suggestion that Cde Mothapo will not carry out his tasks objectively is an insult to his integrity and professional track record which speaks for itself. Cde Mothapo holds a B-Tech in Journalism from the Tshwane University of Technology. He has extensive experience in public relations, stakeholder relations and communications. He served as Senior Manager for Media & Communications and National Spokesperson for the ANC Caucus for the past 12 years. Prior to that, he worked at the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) for 5 years as National Communications Officer, Writer and acting National Spokesperson. In 2009, he served as one of the conveners of the inaugural Nelson Mandela Day national communication team, which brought together communicators from government, parliament, civil society, NGOs and other sectors. He also served as a member of the special 'Labour Task Team' made up of representatives of all labour federations in the country, which successfully lobbied the SABC around the establishment of the weekly labour talk show called 'Workers on Wednesdays' to highlight issues facing workers in the country. Furthermore, Cde Mothapo authored a Chapter to the book marking South Africa's 20 years of democracy: Liberation Diaries - Reflections on 20 Years of Democracy. In 2015, Cde Mothapo was recognised by one of the country's biggest newspapers, the Sunday Times as Spokesperson of the Year. These are but a few of the many accolades Cde Mothapo has achieved over the years. Being the Professional that he is, we have no doubt that he will carry out his tasks in his new role with utmost dedication, diligence and objectivity. As the ANC in Parliament, we congratulate Cde Mothapo on his new role and assure him that he can depend on our support.
