ANC no letters.jpg 28 April 2017 ANC To Join Workers in the celebration and commemoration of May Day The African National Congress (ANC) will join millions of workers around the world to mark May Day on 1st May 2017. Workers - employed and unemployed, urban and rural - remain the main motive force of the National Democratic Revolution (NDR) whose objective is the creation of a united, non-racial, non-sexist, democratic and prosperous society. Organised and mobilised under the progressive banner of the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU), workers in South Africa remain a reliable ally of the African National Congress working together to advance the NDR. Working together over the last 23 years of democratic governance we drew up the Labour Relations Act, the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, the Employment Equity Act and many other laws - thus together putting in place a more equitable labour relations regime, but much remains to be done. As the leader of the Revolutionary Alliance, composed of the South African Communist Party (SACP), COSATU and the South African National Civic Organization (SANCO), the African National Congress will deploy members of its National Executive Committee, led by the National Officials, to join the May Day events organized by COSATU around the country to convey our message of unity of the Alliance for the unity of our people. As we have said before the unity and cohesion of the ANC and the Alliance is a critical prerequisite for the advancement of the NDR, impacting not only on the ability to mobilise and organise the motive forces in transformation, but also on the pace of transformation. This May Day and beyond, the Revolutionary Alliance must and will continue to spare no effort to address the challenges faced within the Alliance and its component parts. Our shared and deep rooted commitment to transform our country remains the glue that unites us, much stronger than those issues which divide us. We are confident therefore that the Mass Democratic Movement as a whole will use this May Day, with dignity and respect, to reflect on the struggles and victories of the working people 23 years into our democratic dispensation.
