Mantashe Calls for 'Boldness' to Address Alliance Challenges

"Instead of accepting our responsibilities, we are entering a beauty contest in
the public domain; all our allies think the only solution to our problems is
removing President Zuma," said ANC S-G GwedeMantashe.

He explained that the ANC's NEC has had long discussions and has resolved that
removing the President would irreparably fracture the organization. The NEC's
conclusion was to work for unity of the movement and for a successful National
Conference in December. This formula, Mantashe said, will work much better than
short-term solutions. -

Government dispatches humanitarian support and disaster management teams to
Western Cape in the wake of storms

The Presidency has noted a report by one of the online "fake news" outlets
claiming that President Jacob Zuma said that Knysna in the Western Cape was not
his concern. The online report and supposed quotation from the President are
false.

The President added that "Government has dispatched humanitarian and other
support to all the affected areas, especially the poor communities, which is
being coordinated through our NATJOC Disaster Management, working with the
Western Cape Provincial Government and Provincial Disaster Management teams."

Removing Zuma Could 'Split' Ruling ANC Party

ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe has warned that attempts to oust South
African President Jacob Zuma could split the movement. The SACP and union
federation COSATU have called repeatedly for Mr Zuma to resign over corruption
allegations.

If that happens "we'll have instant satisfaction and happiness but it will take
us much longer to pick up the pieces of the movement," said Mr Mantashe. -

US Coalition Carrying Out Regular Attacks On Troops

Russia accused Washington yesterday of hindering the fight against terrorism in
Syria - a day after the US bombed troops. The statement by Russian Army Colonel
General Sergey Surovikin came after the US coalition claimed it had shot down
an armed "pro-regime" drone.

The Syrian army is pushing eastwards on several fronts in a bid to eliminate
Isis. A key objective is to lift the three-year siege of the eastern city of
Deir Ezzor, which Isis has launched a last-ditch offensive to capture. -

Turkey Troop Deployment Approved

More Turkish troops were set for deployment in Qatar yesterday after the
government rushed through new legislation to send over its soldiers. Saudi
Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain cut all ties and transport
links with Qatar last week. -

Eurasian powerhouse SCO expands to 8 after India, Pakistan join

India and Pakistan put aside their long-running tensions, as they were
officially confirmed as members of the increasingly influential Shanghai
Cooperation Organization (SCO), during a summit in Kazakhstan capital Astana.

"I thank the SCO for making India a part of this esteemed organization, which
now represents 40 percent of humanity and nearly 20 percent of global GDP,"
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said during his opening remarks at the two-day
leader-level summit. -

Iran ready for Shanghai Pact full membership - Russian FM Lavrov

Russia strongly backs Iranian membership in the Shanghai Cooperation
Organisation (SCO), Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said. Iran is
ready to become a full-fledged member of the organization, Lavrov said Friday
during an SCO Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Astana.

"We hope that during their June summit in Astana, the heads of our states will
be able to discuss the possibility of launching the procedure for admitting
Iran into the organization as a full member," Lavrov said. -

The crisis in Qatar: yet another clumsy attempt by the Three Rogue States to
weaken Iran

The situation is fluid, but do you notice that Turkey and Germany are
supporting Qatar, even though the US is supporting the KSA? That's two major
NATO member states taking a position against the USA.

Iran is the real target. The recent terrorist attack in Tehran was also ordered
by Saudi Arabia. Technically speaking, that means that Iran is now at war. In
reality, Iran being the real local superpower, it is acting with calm and
restraint. -

Syrian Army and Hezbollah have reached border with Iraq

The map shows that the illegal USA "garrison" and "zone" on the southern Syrian
border with Iraq have been by-passed.

"Those airstrikes seem ridiculous now. The U.S. basically gave up on the rebels
today. Not allowing them to advance to Deir Ezzor is a final nail in their
coffin. The Syrian Army and their allies have liberated the Talilah Reserve.
The Russian MoD map is right." - from Leith Abou Fadel on twitter. -
