NUMSA allegedly faces financial troubles, R500m reserve fund 'raided'

NUMSA, the country's biggest trade union, is reportedly facing a serious
internal rebellion, and its finances are alleged to be in disarray. The
relationship between the union's general secretary and his deputy is said to
have broken down.

The financial situation of the metalworkers' union is so bad it had to dip
into its strategic reserve meant to provide workers with alternative income
during strikes, Business Day reported on Friday. NUMSA's general secretary,
Irvin Jim, reported that the union might have to retrench. -

How conspiracy and conflict stalk NUMSA

The National Union of Metalworkers of SA (NUMSA) has lost the plot. Its
challenges are deepened by ideological confusion, a rift among its leaders
since before its 2016 national congress, and money woes.

NUMSA was the biggest and among the wealthiest unions in the country, but
the combination of problems it now faces is leading it down a path of
self-destruction. -

Venezuela Coup "Could Blow Up Huge In Many Nations Of The Region"

I see somebody has been blathering about the lack of 'democracy' in
Venezuela, as if it was the Chavezists who were to blame. The president was
elected by the people in a fair election and Chavezists also won the
majority in the parliament/constituent assembly. The moment that happened,
the elitists who finance opposition coups pushed out propaganda that was no
more than libellous lies, and began a programme of overt subversion. They
have continued this for the last 19 years.

I really hope that Trump and co don't decide that Venezuela be another
victim. The result will be much worse even than the bloodthirsty contras of
Nicaragua. The war will be long and bloody and it is highly doubtful that
amerika could win without terrible violence. -

St. John's racial incident a tip of iceberg: SADTU

Teachers' union SADTU has weighed in on the racial incident at St. John's
College in Johannesburg, saying it's just a tip of the iceberg. SADTU's
Gauteng secretary Tseliso Ledimo says private schools should be closely
monitored.

"Because they are not monitored by the Department, they just act on their
own. And that's why the Department must take an effort to closely monitor
those schools, because there are lot of abnormalities in those schools that
must be dealt with," said Ledimo. -

"They Can't Be Trusted' -- St John's Alumni Call On Headteacher And Council
Chair To Also Go

The South African Democratic Teacher's Union's Tsheliso Ledimo said racism
should be criminalized. "We always maintained that racism has no place in
our dispensation... It should be criminalized," he said.

SADTU welcomes Arlow's resignation because it sets a precedent for teachers
in the future. "We have done so much to get rid of racism since 1994. We
can't be having this," Ledimo said. -

R101m private school subsidy slated by teacher unions

South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) provincial secretary Jonovan
Rustin said the union would enter into discussions with the department on
the issue. "We know that some of these (independent) schools being funded
are in disadvantaged areas.

"But we would like to see all schools become state schools," Rustin said. He
said independent schools should be absorbed and become state schools for the
government to take responsibility for the education of these pupils. -

'Changes avoiding root of problem'

SADTU DGS Nkosana Dolopi said: "The department wants to look good in their
pass rate, but what about the quality of education? Maths is a basic of
life. To count, you need maths, to drive, you need maths. The department
must deal with the challenges in the education system.

"The department should ensure that teachers are well-trained. Maths also
needs individual attention; and schools are faced with overcrowding. The
department must not be quick to drop requirements without identifying the
challenges," said Dolopi -

Putin: 755 US diplomats to depart Russia, time to show we won't leave
anything unanswered

More than 750 American diplomats will have to leave Russia as a result of
Washington's own policies. "The American side has made a move which hasn't
been provoked by anything," said Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The number of US diplomatic service staff in Russia was ordered to be
reduced in order to equal the number of Russian diplomats in the US by 1
September 2017. As of now, the American diplomatic mission includes more
than 1,200 personnel. -
