IS THE MPUMALANGA UNITY A GENUINE REVOLUTIONARY UNITY OR AN EMPLOYMENT
CONTRACTUAL UNITY?
The ANC lead Alliance in Mpumalanga has been known for its animosity towards
each other which was brought into the surface by the Kanyamazane brawls
between the SACP and the ANC members. The ANC in Mpumalanga has been an open
field of practicing gate keeping and isolating tried and tested cadres of
the movement, we witnessed the Save the ANC Mpumalanga becoming a platform
to raise concerns about the decay of the ANC in the province. Until recently
we heard and seen the Mpumalanga's Provincial Chairperson of the ANC
becoming the voice of reason to unite the province and the ANC nationally.
Is it a genuine revolutionary unity or a contractual unity? The ANC in
Mpumalanga had its Regional Congresses and the order from above was to
retain all serving leaders in their position in order to build unity and the
question is which unity? The outcome was the continuation of isolation of
the tried and tested cadres of the movement and consolidation of a faction
in the name of unity.
There is no unity without identifying and clear definition the problems,
firstly there was no forum to discuss the ANC problems in the province,
there was no attempt to discuss bogus membership, the legitimacy of the ANC
structures in the province and the political and administrative capacity of
the leadership to lead the ANC and society. Secondly there was no attempt to
bring cadres of the movement into the structures of the ANC. The ANC remains
in the hands of a faction of hooligans and looters, its machinery and modus
operandi remain intact and on standby to repeat the Kanyamazane round 2 if
ordered so.
The unity that was paraded in the public eyes is a contractual employment
unity not a revolutionary unity. The leaders of save the ANC, BRA and those
who re-joined the ANC were given positions in government. We also recently
saw the leader of the SACP in Mpumalanga being sworn in as a Member of
Parliament and all of it happened in the name of unity of the ANC. The
commonality with this unity is that it has a contract or a time frame
attached to it, their employment ends in 2019. The question is; what will
happen to the unity post 2019? The common thing with all of them is that
they are not part of the structures of the ANC except the one from BRA who
have been co-opted into the REC in Bohlabela and they are not influencing
any decision making process within the ANC but they have been kept occupied
with government work and the fancy life. It is amazing that the unity does
not speak to the future of the ANC in the province post December 2017 and
the 2019 post election, but the future of the ANC in the province is planned
outside the unity of the ANC and alliance. Currently the dominant faction of
the ANC is having candidates to succeed the current chairperson of the ANC
in the province post December 2017 or 2019 elections and then will be back
to square one of the animosity because the unity is not based on a common
shared vision of the future of the ANC, people of Mpumalanga and South
Africa but it has been bought. If you are familiar with Mpumalanga you can
understand that we buy everything from membership, membership audit, up to
becoming councillors or members of Parliament.
The unity in Mpumalanga will require a Truth and Reconciliation amongst
comrades at all levels and the current membership of the ANC must be
nullified and start an open recruitment accompanied by political education
through all medium of communication. We all know that there is no legitimate
ANC in Mpumalanga and failure to recognise this patronage in the name of
unity will strengthen the ³Premier¹s League² as it was demonstrated during
the Special Provincial General Council of the ANC. The current arrangement
of unity in Mpumalanga is evidence that Mpumalanga will deliver united
numbers or voting cows to the December conference and with these membership
and current leaders at all level Mpumalanga will not bring capacity to
assist the ANC to regain its political posture to lead government and
society.
