Hi, I don't know if this is patented, but I think it's a very cool idea that can be used in del.icio.us and tools built on top of del.icio.us:
http://www.idiom.com/~zilla/Work/VisualIDs/visualids.html You could have icons for both del.icio.us links and users. The icon could take into account the tags associated with the link/user.
