AFAIK, there's no reasonable limit.  To add a subscription, go to your inbox, and then click "edit inbox" at the bottom of the subscription list on the right.  Then type in the subscription in the textboxes at the bottom of the page.

I really miss the "subscribe" button, too.  It was a lot easier than the procedure above.
