I am trying to create a del.icio.us dataset for a class project on
data mining. We are taking a user-oriented approach to the data so we
would like to have ALL the bookmarks (urls + tags) for a set of users.
We can get a subset of del.icio.us users from either the "popular" or
"recent" feeds, but it seems it is hard to get all the bookmarks for
each of these users. The RSS/JSON/HTML feeds of a user's page just
include a few recent bookmarks. So is there a way to get the rest of
the bookmarks without scraping the user page?
Interestingly, I found that there are JSON feeds (but not RSS) for
getting a list of all the tags (with counts) of a user and a list of
the user's network friends.
Would it be possible for the del.icio.us team to provide a similar
JSON/RSS feed that has ALL bookmarks of a user? If not could you give
us some tips on doing it right? We would really like to avoid the
page-scraping (we don't know if there is any request throttling).
Obviously, we will make the dataset publically available for research
purposes.
