Hi, I am new to the list

A couple of questions
How can I get my iMac's CD tray to open so I can put a cd in it
in Yellow Dog Linux 4.1

when I try clicking on the CD/DVD-ROM icon in the desktop
I get this message:

Could not mount device.
The reported error was:

mount: can't find /mnt/cdrom in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab

I assume it's because there is no CD in the drive

The iMac's eject key on the keyboard doesn't do anything it appears in
Linux

I don't use the GUI for such things, so I can't speak to it.

However, the CD-ROMs are mounted in /media -- usually /media/cdrom or /media/cdrecorder.

To actually use the CD, you'll want to run "mount /media/cdrecorder".

To eject a CD from the command line, just type "eject" (and hit enter), and the drive should open. If you want to be more specific, you can "eject /dev/cdrom" -- or, if a CD is mounted, you can use "eject /media/cdrecorder".

This system is so convenient that I rarely use the GUI for anything other than arranging Terminal, Firefox, and Thunderbird windows -- it's just too much work to reach for the mouse when most of my real-work is done most conveniently on the command-line... :-)
