The biggest issue is HDCP.  A semi-current list of HDCP monitors is here:

I didn't look through all of them, but I did manage to find the HP f2105 for just over $300.  That might be your best bet.  Never tried it, though.  I run the PS3 through the TV when I'm watching it, or just X-windows or ssh when I'm programming it.
