Dear Marilyn:
If I understand you correctly you appear to be using old CRT technology as your 
monitor whereas all current Macs are optimized for Digital displays; flatscreen 
CRTs are not digital. This may be the basis of your complaint; connect your 
computer to a digital screen and I'm sure you'll be fine and your installation 
can proceed readily. The most reasonably priced digital displays I've seen go 
for about $330+.
