Yes that is it. The prompt has changed from what it was originally
to the bash$ prompt. The bash prompt also acts differently, so maybe
something got messed about when I did the yum upgrade. So if I can
get back to the # prompt that would be very cool. Sorry about the
language confusion, my brain hurts.

I think I know what you are talking about now--though I could be
wrong but will take a stab at it.
bash is the default shell of all linux distros--at least to my
knowledge.
And what you noticed changing was the prompt at the command line,
not the shell. For example, when you su as root, you probably
noticed the prompt change from $ to #. The reason this happens is
for security--to let you know that you now have super user
privileges so watch what you do as you could mess something up.
If you don't like the dollar sign as your prompt, you can configure
this as well.
You can change what your prompt looks like.
If this is what you were talking about, let me know and I'll show
you how to change your prompt.

It was not a bash shell, though I am sorry to say that I don't
recall what it was. However, when I signed in as either root, or
su, the shell acted differently. Then one day, the bash command
line shows up. And as for upgrading to v4, I will wait a while.

Are you talking about getting your default shell to start up when
you open the terminal? What was your default shell? You can
change which shell starts up in your login scripts. Those would
be .bashrc, .profile, .kshrc and so on.
The latest is version 4 (. something) of Yellow Dog.

I updated my linux version to the latest of 3, whatever that
is. When I went into the terminal window and typed in su, then
my password, I got a bash command line. What happened to the
default command line I have no idea, but now yum will not
update, or anything else for that matter. Can someone help with
getting my default command line back, or do I have to hack the
yum.conf file or what . Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
