2.  Can you ping 192.168.1.1?  If so the network card is working
3.  Then check /etc/resolv.conf for a nameserver entry. It will be the DNS from you isp and should look like nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address of the DNS.

Many thanks for your valuable suggestions. In fact, I had sent this e-mail about two weeks ago when I resolved the problem by simply loading the "airport" module

$ modprobe airport

I accidentally resent this e-mail while I was sorting the messages in my Inbox. :-)
