Ray,
I nearly forgot, the Terminal is launched by selecting the dark TV looking
thing in the Shelf at the top of your screen, or Applications --> Accessories
--> Gnome Terminal.
You may have to "log in as root" by entering:
su - [ENTER]
... and then entering your root passwd.
You can exit by typing:
exit [ENTER}
... 2 or 3 times or just killing the window (which doesn't hurt anything).
