Anyways...
I've looked into apply smcup and rmcup per your suggestion. They appear to
work.
Though the hardcoded control strings in vty were causing issues and I had
to adjust
them to get the desired effect. Please try yi using the latest vty from
darcs
(3.1.7). I'm not convinced I didn't introduce a regression.
