I manage to get it working by reading in as a strict bytestring and then turning it into a lazy bytestring for Data.Binary's decode per the advice in http://www.ultraviolet.org/mail-archives/haskell-cafe.2008/msg08660.html You can see what I did in the patch. Certainly I would like Data.Binary to Just Work, but I don't really follow these issues. (I'm more of a user than a developer...) -- gwern
