re-arrange some definitions and instances.
GHC 7.0 with template haskell 2.5 appears to be picky about the order of
definitions when used.
This patch re-arranges the definitions to appease template haskell and compile.
GHC 7.1 does not
appear to have this issue. Not sure about GHC 6.12 or earlier.
