The big issue with webcams etc is the sheer numbers of differing chipsets.
I personally think that the best way forward is to possibly include support
for those which are well known ( and probably already in the kernel anyway!),
then use the wiki to support the different types. My own Sweex/Chicony how-to
can be modified fairly easily to run with the new Yoper I guess - as long as
the needed bits and bobs are included in the kernel - usbvideo and videodev.
Including something like either camorama or camstream - together with v4l
support, is the basic need to get webcams running.
No idea re the other things - as far as I am aware, the digital cameras I use
are all happy to work with the Linux kernel and the basic tools - though I
tend to simply set them up as /dev/sdaX etc and create a mount point. If
hotplugging support would do this without any input from the user - i.e
detect the camera or other usb device - and mouint it ready to go - that
would be good. It certainly works in some distros.

The team meetings sound good Tobias. I shall send round a mail on this in a
few days :)
