Hi all,

Hi,

as some of you may have noticed I was quite silent in the past. I was
far more covered with things left to be done before moving to NZ.

Let me recall the to-do and give some statements about it.

- get all packages rebuilt on the new server and upgraded to the
latest stable version available without doing major version changes.

as far as I am aware this is done, KDE-3.5.2 is a no-no it simply has
too many flaws we could cover

i feel its better to stay with KDE 3.5.1 as the new release of KDE 3.5.2 seems to be a buggy version.

- write etcnet configuration dialog

still to-do and a must, network configuration is one of the basic
tasks that an OS needs to handle properly

Can anybody who is well known with etcnet configuration give a step by step procedure on which files and what to edit in order to make network working for static and dynamic configurations?

- proper localization configuration

done , yet unpackaged

good to hear :-)

- add out-of-the box configuration to the available desktops

done, will be available on the first test ISO and can be discussed,
will look to generate a seperate package for this

agreed.

- have at least one leightweight desktop in the repositories ( e17, xfce)

done, how about having XFCE on the ISO ?

Xfce seems to be a good choice but  it has its own pros and cons. People should be aware of that. Having Xfce doesnt mean that it will do everything what KDE does. We are also planning to start Yoper Installation in Xfce mode rather in KDE as how it is handled now.

- out-of-the-box setup & configuration for external devices (webcam ,
digikam , usb-hdd)

30% done

yes, i can also make it work 30% here in my laptop.However, theres  a few things that we need to concentrate in making this work 100%.

- wrapper rpms for nvidia and ati drivers

testers, please raise your hand

- ekiga

what's the status of this Jelle ?

- kat

Fabian any idea, whether KAT made your konqueror crash ?

So many things left are left undone and the only obvious thing is we
won't be finished before Eastern. Because I move to NZ directly after
Eastern I can't give a new timeline yet. I first have to look how
things work out in NZ.

All the best tobias on your new journey if life.

Another thing which is not in the list is the Menu Customization.  Is it ok to have  this kinda structure? (below)

Internet
||
==>Browsers
                    ||
                    ==>Firefox
                    ==>Mozilla
==>Chat
              ||
              ==>Gaim
              ==>X-Chat
              ==>Kopete

etc.,

I think we also need to change the application's grouping in RPM while building them.

Can we opt as above?

How about removing Gaim and including Gaim-vv ?

regards
