This may help.

Install KDE's applications.menu into /etc/kde/xdg/menus and add this
line right after the #!/bin/sh line in startkde:

export XDG_CONFIG_DIRS=/etc/kde/xdg

Use the attached patched to build kdelibs.

With this workaround, you may install Gnome's applications.menu into
/etc/xdg/menus and both KDE and Gnome will use their own menus.

Now, you may build a Yoper package of K Menu Gnome if you like:
