Hi all!

As already said it's planned to include OSS v4 into yoper 3.1 if tests lead to
the conclusion that it's working fine for us. It would be nice if every yoper
dev (or just anyone interested) could find some time to test the packages I
built for that.

for instruction on how to setup OSS v4 for you, take a look at:
http://www.yoper.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=8204&view=findpost&p=45516

Plz drop a mail whether it's working for you or not.

If you encounter the problem that you just can't stop all processes using the
soundcard (occasionaly happens with arts) just reboot and make sure ALSA is
not started at boot.

If it is working for you, it might be very interesting how OSS v4 behaves in
more testcases (interaction with jackd/pulseaudio and apps supporting those
two soundservers). I've tested it with jackd and pulse and didn't encounter
any problems at all.
If OSS v4 doesn't work for you plz provide the /usr/lib/oss/logs/soundon.log
and cat /proc/cpuinfo.

Currently known issues are:
- our kmix is not supporting OSS
- ALSA emulation does not work properly (since nearly every proggy supports
OSS [thanks to *BSDs not switiching away from it], that shouldn't be a
problem
- SBLive gains huge latency if used with vmix (I already got a workaround for
that [deactivating vmix for that])

Currently known issues with games are:
- a pc having a SBLive causes quake3 to instantly crash after loading a map if
q3 is configured wrong (fixed)

Regards

Armin
